Review by Peter Juvan

The Heat And Dust Original Soundtrack Recording by Richard Robbins is a masterpiece that captures the essence of India in the 1920s. The album features a blend of Indian classical music and Western orchestration that perfectly complements the film's themes of love, passion, and cultural clashes.

Robbins' use of traditional Indian instruments such as the sitar, tabla, and sarangi, along with the Western strings and brass sections, creates a unique sound that transports the listener to another time and place. The album's opening track, "Heat and Dust," sets the tone for the entire album with its haunting melody and intricate percussion.

Other standout tracks include "Olivia's Theme," which features a beautiful piano melody that builds to a sweeping orchestral climax, and "The Wedding," a joyous celebration of traditional Indian music and dance.

Bring me wine
Saw Heat and Dust on re-release at the BFI in London last night and was impressed by the wonderful soundtrack by Richard Robbins. This is a masterly musical channeling of eastern and western idioms that chimes so well with the themes of the film (and original novel). Echoes of Philip Glass and beautiful sarangi and flute. Gives me goose-bumps and makes me want to return to Kashmir!
